Racing Beat has developed a Cold Air Intake system for the MX-5's that is both functional and attractive! Indended to function with the Racing Beat Assembly
on all 1999-2005 non-turbo MX-5's, the Cold Air Duct allows the intake to draw ONLY cooler ambient air into the intake duct.

When our engineering staff was modifying our High Flow Kit to function on the revised second generation MX-5's (1999-05), they noted that Mazda had placed a sizable opening in the area engine compartment just behind the driver’s side headlamp. Much to our luck, the inlet end of our High Flow Intake was positioned almost directly over this opening!

After modifying the High Flow Intake Kit to fit this revised application, we set our sights on developing a Cold Air Intake Duct to utilize this new found source of cool intake air. After debating on whether to use plastic or fiberglass material, and consulting with several manufacturing shops, we reviewed many prototypes and finally arrived at a finished product. Each duct is produced from hand-laid fiberglass mat and finished a high-gloss black gel-coat finish. The resulting product is a beautiful piece that is both strong and lightweight. Fitted to the exact contours of the engine compartment, and finished with an interlocking insulation trim, the precision fit of this intake virtually eliminates the introduction of hot engine compartment air into the intake.

Intake Temperatures
As with all Racing Beat parts, we undertook extensive testing during the development of this kit. Prior to testing, a hole was drilled into the end of the K&N filter and a temperature sensor probe was inserted, which led to a digital temperature gauge in the cockpit. During test runs at 55 MPH (79 degrees ambient air temperature), intake air temperatures were recorded up to 15 degrees cooler inside the air filter with the duct installed!
